I HEART NY!

my beautiful family in Central Park

Wow! Our week certainly went by way too quickly! We departed Memphis airport at 8:45AM Sunday, July 12 and returned to Memphis on Saturday, July 18 at 6:15PM! The hustle and bustle of city life was definitely a change of pace! Averi, as well as all the children, did amazingly well on both flights and all during the trip! I am so proud of them! We did lots of sight-seeing and eating! I think that's where all of our money went...to food! Food is ridiculously expensive in NY! We were total tourists this trip...did the Grayline Double Decker bus tour (highly recommend it!),visited the Empire State Building 86th & 102nd observatory decks, went to the American Museum of Natural History, enjoyed a dinner cruise of NY, and walked some of Central Park, etc... BUT the highlight of the whole trip was seeing Paul McCartney perform live on top of the Ed Sullivan Theater (Lateshow with David Letterman) Marquee! OMG--hundreds of people 3 blocks in all directions just trying to get a glimpse of the Beatle doing his thing! AND Bruce Willis standing about 20 yards from us on a press lift...talk about CRAZY! We also visited Carlos' Bake Shop (home of Cake Boss on TLC) in Hoboken, New Jersey. We enjoyed some cream cheese danishes, cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, shortbread cookies, and scones! Everything was delicious! While we were eating in the bakery, he & the film crew came downstairs, but stayed in the back. Later, Buddy (aka Cake Boss) did step out into the bakery & greeted us, even was nice enough to stop & pose for a picture. He was really nice! As we were leaving, he was doing a photo shoot in front of his bake shop, so naturally I became the paparazzi! Hehe! We also encountered one more celebrity, but was not fast enough to get a picture...Nicolas Cage coming out of Toys R Us @ Times Square! He was alone, no security or bodyguard, or entourage...my brother & his wife spotted him first & told us about it. We were a little unsure if it was really him, so we watched him through the windows. Sure enough, he got into a parked black Rolls Royce guarded by NYPD! I wish I would've had my camera ready! oh well, that's how it goes sometimes! All in all, our family trip to New York was a success! We all had so much fun, but were exhausted at the same time! It's good to be home, but we all can't wait to go back! Even Averi at two and half years old already misses the city! We HEART NY!

We're going to be a part of it....

NEW YORK, NEW YORK!! It's finally here...time to pack & board our plane for the Big Apple! We are so excited! It's been a very long time since Allen & I have been to the city, and of course, Averi has never been at all! We're not going alone though--there are 11 of us! Yep, ELEVEN! Us, my parents, Dalton, Ray, Julie, Ethan, Rayli, and Julie's mother Mrs. Betty. This is certainly going to be an experience to remember! We actually will not be staying in NYC, instead we're staying across the Hudson at the Westin hotel in Jersey City, NJ. My dad's family lives in Jersey, so it'll be easier for us to visit with them. It's only a 7-10 minute PATH (NJ subway) ride into NYC, we'll have a great view of the city from our hotel, PLUS it's much cheaper than staying inside the city itself! Can't wait to get there!

Happy 4th!!

We started out the long holiday weekend by taking Averi to her second movie at the theater--Ice Age:Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Luckily, we had another pleasant experience! She LOVES going to the movies, I think she just really enjoys having popcorn and a Sprite! Today, we hosted a family cookout at our home. Allen grilled ribs, salmon, and hot dogs---all very delicious! He did a great job! I fixed corn on the cob and a strawberry cake. The rest of the family brought twice baked potatoes, mac-n-cheese, fried zucchini, and other desserts! We were STUFFED! The kids played in the kiddie pools and sprinklers and had a big time! At dusk, the kids played with giant sparklers...well, more like held them against their will!! Averi was the first to hold a lit sparkler and not once did she cry! She did get startled when it first started, but never let go. After it burned out, she said "I not afraid!" She did a great job for a 2.5 year old holding her very first firework! Ethan was terrified!! I've never seen my Godchild scared of anything, but he sure was scared of the sparkler! He didn't want anything to do with it! And I can't really blame him after watching his older sister, Rayli get burned! She held her's up in the air & when the sparks fell, a few landed on her arm! Poor Rayli...the burn marks were not bad, it just scared her more than anything! After that incident, the sparklers were put to rest and out came the Snap-Its! They were a huge hit for the children and adults! Overall, we had a great day! We enjoy our family and LOVE spending quality time with them!

Ray enjoyed the sparklers more than our children...what do you think?

What Averi thinks of baby dolls...

Allen decided it was once again time to clean out Averi's toy box this AM...for some reason it wouldn't close all the way. While he was sorting through her toys, we asked Averi if she wanted to keep her dolls. This is where she thought they belonged:
POOR BABIES! Obviously she's her mother's daughter, because growing up dolls were my least favorite toy! I remember getting "babies" for birthdays and Christmases from family & friends and being so DISAPPOINTED! My Little Ponies, coloring books & crayons, and books were all I wanted! Averi hasn't really discovered My Little Ponies yet, but she really likes horses, she loves to paint, and to read! I think she just might belong to me afterall!!

Summer fun!

Wow! Summer is going much faster than I had hoped! It's already July...where has it gone?! Obviously time flies when you're staying busy and having fun!! During the month of June we had birthday party after birthday party to attend--2 shared parties and 3 singles! There was at least one party every weekend (sometimes 2 in the same day!) and they all were lots of fun!! Between weekends we've stayed busy with swimming, sprinklers, gymnastics, and playdates! She's had so much fun so far and we're only halfway into the summer! Can't wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store!
